DCLM Daily Manna 26 June 2025 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Seeking Righteousness?
TOPIC: Seeking Righteousness? (DCLM Daily Manna 26 June 2025)
KEY VERSE: “But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness” (Romans 9:31).
TEXT: Romans 9:27-33 (KJV)
27 Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:
28 For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.
29 And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.
30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.
31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.
32 Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
MESSAGE:
A Ten Commandments monument was installed on the grounds of the Arkansas State Capitol in June 2017, following two years of controversy and debate. Standing at over six feet tall, the monument was originally authorized in 2015 in “The Ten Commandments Monument Display Act,” which defined the Ten Commandments as “an important component of the moral foundation of the laws and legal system of the United States of America and of the State of Arkansas.”
God chose Israel as His people and revealed Himself to them, giving them laws and showing them the way of righteousness. The Ten Commandments given through Moses were temporary, leading up to the revelation of the true path to righteousness – Jesus Christ. The Jews, however, did not recognize Jesus as their Saviour, as they were expecting a political redeemer. They continued in their religious practices without realizing that Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection introduced a new way to righteousness. The birth of Jesus did not meet their expectations, leading to their rejection of Him as their Lord and Redeemer.
During the crucifixion of Jesus Christ at Calvary, soldiers pierced His side with a spear to confirm His death, unknowingly fulfilling messianic prophecies. As He died, the temple veil tore in two, symbolizing a new way to righteousness for all, Jews and Gentiles. This event marked the revelation of the path to the holiest of all, as recorded in the Bible (Zechariah 12:10; John 19:34-37; Matthew 27:50,51; Hebrews 10:19,20).
Unfortunately, the Jews continue to hold onto their levitical laws instead of embracing faith in the completed work of Jesus on the cross. This has led them to miss the path to righteousness. Interestingly, now the Gentiles are discovering the way to God through Jesus Christ. This way can only be found through faith, not through self-righteousness or adherence to the law. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life that leads to righteousness.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
There’s only one way of attaining righteousness: the way paved by Christ.
